A group of young tourists ventures through the southern United States in search of an authentic experience. After getting lost, they end up in a small, remote town that seems straight out of a tale from another era. The locals, a community of fanciful and scaly Southerners, welcome them with open arms. However, they soon discover that there is something strange about the hospitality of the place.
The villagers are actually a group of cannibals who have been waiting for outsiders to arrive so they can prepare for their peculiar harvest festival, which they call "The Slaughter Festival." With every passing minute, the teenagers find themselves increasingly trapped in a spiral of terror and madness, while the town's inhabitants adorn this macabre event with a mix of humor and brutality.
As the friends try to find a way to escape, they must fight not only for their lives but also to keep their fragile bonds of friendship intact. The film becomes a rollercoaster of laughter and horror, where blood can stain the vibrant color palette of the town. With unexpected twists and a good dose of gore, the protagonists experience what it truly means to be the "dish of the day." This film serves as a reminder that sometimes, what seems like a fun and carefree journey can turn into a terrifying nightmare.
