In a post-apocalyptic future, the world as we know it has been devastated by a nuclear war, and humanity faces its imminent extinction. The story focuses on a group of survivors in Australia, one of the few places that still has a breath of life. Among them are an American submariner, Captain Towers, and his companion, an engineer named, who attempt to hold on to an increasingly tenuous hope. As radiation slowly advances from the northern hemisphere, the characters grapple with their desires, fears, and the crushing reality they face.

As the threat of imminent death approaches, the protagonists begin to confront their choices and their past. Towers falls in love with a local woman, who also feels the pressure of time and the impossibility of a future. Amidst the hopelessness, the bonds between them deepen, reminding them of what it means to love and live in a lost world.

As the atmosphere fills with uncertainty and anguish, the story offers a poignant reflection on the fragility of life and the need to find beauty even in darkness. The characters face not only an external threat but also their own internal demons, embarking on a journey of self-discovery that could be both their salvation and their doom. The film is a powerful exploration of human resilience in the context of a bleak future.
