In a remote forest in the northwest of the United States, a unique family lives on the fringes of modern society. Ben, a deeply idealistic father, has raised his six children in a rural environment, away from the distractions of the contemporary world. As they cultivate both physical and mental skills, ranging from philosophy to the art of survival, the children become prodigies, but they also face dilemmas as they grow up.
Life in the forest collides brutally with reality when tragedy strikes. Following the mother's death, Ben decides that his children must attend the funeral, which forces them to leave their home. During this road trip to the consumerism empire they have been avoiding, the family encounters surprising and often hilarious situations. From the confrontation with their grandmother, who represents the norms of conventional society, to the tensions between the values Ben has instilled in them and the life they see around them, deep conflicts emerge regarding education, freedom, and the future.
In the end, this emotional journey will lead them to reevaluate their lifestyle and, above all, to question the true essence of family. As they navigate the deserts of pain and loss, they will discover that, although their ideals are strong, love and human connection are even more powerful.
