In a quiet French town, the life of an elderly couple, Pierre and his wife, is shaken by the arrival of a black cat which, to make matters worse, is an old enemy of the husband. Pierre, a writer turned painter, lives tormented by the memories and frustrations of his life, while his wife, tempted to fall into routine and discouragement, finds herself trapped by the shadow of a lost love. The cat, once belonging to her late lover, appears in the garden, reviving mixed feelings and old grudges.
As the days go by, the presence of the cat unleashes a series of conflicts and tensions in the household, turning daily life into an emotional whirlwind. Pierre tries to ignore the feline, but his obsession with the past and his inability to let go of what once was begin to wear down their relationship. Meanwhile, his wife, feeling caught between the memories of her youth and the harsh reality of her present life, starts to question her own decisions and desires.
Set against a backdrop of nostalgia and melancholy, the film explores how the past can affect us in unexpected ways, addressing love, loss, and the struggle for identity in a visually captivating narrative. The black cat becomes not only a symbol of memory but also a catalyst that will challenge the bonds of this aging couple, pushing them toward an inevitable turning point.
