In a picturesque yet sometimes brutal landscape of southwestern England, a young family embarks on an epic adventure along the Dart River and through the hills of Dartmoor. The story follows siblings Thomas and Alice, who, tired of the monotony of village life, decide to explore the hidden mysteries of the vast wilderness. Their expedition becomes an odyssey of discovery, both of the landscape and of themselves.

As they navigate the winding river, they encounter villagers and enigmatic characters who involve them in local legends, such as sprites that protect the land and an old fisherman guarding the river's secrets. With every turn in the path, the siblings face moral dilemmas and challenges that test their courage and their sibling bond. Nature reveals itself as a character in its own right, with its dazzling beauty and hidden dangers.

Throughout their journey, Thomas and Alice learn to appreciate the simplicity of rural life, but they also discover the fragility of their world, as industrialization threatens to obliterate the magic of their home. The story culminates in an emotional conclusion that underscores the importance of protecting what we love in the face of impending change. The film, with its stunning visual style and rooted in nostalgia, captures the spirit of a transitioning era, leaving viewers with a resonant echo of hope and reflection.
