In early 20th century Europe, young German engineer Anton becomes obsessed with the idea of life after death following the mysterious death of his fiancée, Lisa. Consumed by grief, he dedicates himself to experimenting with methods of communication with spirits. His research leads him to an old and enigmatic medium who promises to connect him with Lisa from beyond.
