In a post-apocalyptic future, humanity stands on the brink of extinction following a global cataclysm. Tokyo-3, one of the few surviving cities, has become a battleground against mysterious beings known as Angels, who threaten to destroy what remains of civilization. The clandestine organization NERV, tasked with protecting humanity, has developed enormous mechs called Evangelions, piloted by chosen teenagers capable of confronting these creatures.
The story follows Shinji Ikari, a lonely boy who is summoned by his father, Gendo, to pilot one of these powerful mechs. However, the relationship between father and son is marked by Gendo's cold indifference, and the burden that Shinji must bear proves overwhelming. As he delves deeper into this world of conflict and responsibility, the young boy faces not only the Angels but also his own inner demons.
Alongside him are other pilots, such as Rei Ayanami, an enigmatic girl with a dark secret, and Asuka Langley, who brings a sense of competition and rivalry. As the Angels' attacks intensify, Shinji must learn to cope with the pressure of being a hero and the loneliness that accompanies his role. The struggle is not just external, as the true enemies are the emotional battles he fights with himself and his past.
