In a small British village, the young couple formed by sweet Jenny and her husband, shy and clumsy Arthur, faces the realities of married life. Eager to start a new chapter after their recent wedding, the pair finds themselves at a crossroads when they discover that intimacy is not always so simple. While Arthur, a new employee at the railway, struggles with his own insecurities and the social pressure to meet marital expectations, Jenny, with her independent spirit, begins to question her place in the relationship.

The situation complicates when the usual routine is interrupted by the arrival of an old flame of Jenny's, who rekindles buried feelings and makes Arthur feel even more out of place. As the tension grows among the three, concepts such as maturity, desire, and what love truly means are explored. Through laughter and tears, the characters delve into their own identities and the meaning of family in a society that can often be restrictive.

With a blend of comedy and drama, the story unravels the small, great tragedies of everyday life and how, despite their differences, love can overcome even the greatest obstacles. The film serves as a mirror of its time, reflecting on social expectations and human desires, all seasoned with a touch of simplicity and sincerity.
