In a picturesque 13th-century village in Italy, a young nobleman named Francesco experiences a profound existential crisis that leads him to question his privileged life and his faith. In an unexpected turn, he decides to renounce his wealth and embrace poverty, seeking a more authentic connection with God and nature. As he wanders through the countryside, he encounters a group of lepers whom he decides to help, provoking the indignation of many of his former companions.

As his journey unfolds, Francesco becomes a true “giullare,” a jester, using his wit and humor to convey messages of love, compassion, and hope. Facing resistance from society and religious authorities, his charisma begins to attract followers who feel inspired by his teachings. The film captures Francesco's internal struggle as he seeks the truth in a world filled with hypocrisy and greed.

Throughout his journey, the beauty of creation is showcased, from golden fields to the faces of those who suffer, revealing the deep spiritual connection Francesco feels with everything around him. With his crusade for peace and unity, he becomes a symbol of change in an era marked by intolerance. In a series of emotional and reflective moments, the phenomenon of his simple life teaches that true wealth lies in love and humility.
