In a university campus filled with revolutionary convictions and tumultuous emotions, we follow the life of Harry Bailey, a Vietnam veteran trying to adjust to civilian life after returning home. The story unfolds in an environment where students fight for freedom of expression and social change, while Harry confronts his own demons and the memories of the war conflict.
Drawn to university life, he enrolls in classes, but quickly realizes that his experience is very different from that of conventional students. He feels caught between two worlds: on one side, the idealistic youth who want to change the world, and on the other, the harsh reality of his own history. Harry begins to form relationships with some of these young people, including a group of rebellious friends who challenge him to embrace a different mindset.
However, the pressure of social expectations, chaotic interactions with professors, and his relationship with his girlfriend, who is also going through her own process of self-discovery, complicate his journey. As Harry navigates this new environment, he is forced to confront his own beliefs and find his place in a world that he feels he will never fully understand. In a sea of confusion and hope, he must decide what it truly means to "fit in" and whether he can, ultimately, leave behind the scars of the past.
