Set in the 1930s, the story follows a group of friends who graduated together from a prestigious university in New England. As they enter the real world, each of them faces their own challenges and the social expectations of an era marked by conservatism and repression. From the charismatic and ambitious Kay, who seeks to make a name for herself in the literary world, to the sweet and dreamy Priss, who finds herself torn between love and family pressure, each friend navigates the complexities of adulthood.

Throughout the film, the individual stories of the women intertwine, revealing their anxieties, aspirations, and traumas. Themes of marriage, sexual freedom, career, and friendship reflect the struggles many women face. As the plots unfold, the characters are forced to confront issues regarding their identity and place in the world.

The film explores women's struggle to be heard in a society that seeks to silence them and the decisions they must make to break free from imposed molds. With an honest and sometimes painful approach, the narrative showcases both the support and rivalry that can arise at the heart of female friendships. In the end, the film reveals that the power of connection and understanding among women can be both a source of strength and a catalyst for personal change.
