Tom Stall is an ordinary man who leads a quiet life as the owner of a café in a small town in Indiana, alongside his wife Edie and their children. His life takes an unexpected turn when, after an attempted robbery at his business, he acts heroically and brutally eliminates his attackers. This event turns him into a local hero and brings him fame, but it also awakens the interest of people from a past he thought he had left behind.
Everything begins to unravel when a mysterious man who appears out of nowhere, calling himself Carl Fogarty, shows up at his door with shocking revelations about Tom's true identity. Fogarty claims that he is a former criminal from a distant city named Joey, which puts to the test the peaceful life Tom has built.
