In the poignant context of World War II, a man and a woman cross paths on an unexpected journey that changes their lives forever. In a city in New York, a young woman named Mary, who has spent time in a sanatorium due to her mental health issues, is eager to enjoy Christmas. After completing her treatment, she decides to spend the holidays at her family home, but things do not go as she had planned.

On the other hand, at a train station, a soldier named Bill, returning from serving on the front lines, feels overwhelmed by the war and the traumatic experiences that haunt him. In the midst of his own turmoil, he encounters Mary, and despite their respective dark pasts, an instant and deep connection blossoms between them. They immerse themselves in an intense yet bittersweet relationship, where they seek comfort and meaning amidst the chaos surrounding them.

Over time, their encounters reveal each other's vulnerabilities and hopes. As love begins to blossom, the harsh realities that both unite and separate them also emerge. Ultimately, they must confront their past and decide whether they are willing to move forward together or if the weight of their history and fate will lead them down separate paths. This emotive tale emphasizes the fragility of life and the transformative power of love in dark times.
