In a suburb of Sacramento during 2002, Christine, a 17-year-old teenager, longs to escape the routine of her life and find her own identity. With her rebellious spirit, she calls herself “Lady Bird” and dreams of moving to the East Coast to attend a university that will allow her to explore her true artistic potential. However, her relationship with her mother, a strong but demanding woman, becomes an emotional battleground. As they both struggle to understand each other, the complexities of unconditional love and the sacrifices mothers make for their children are revealed.

The protagonist navigates the turbulent waters of adolescent life: friendships, loves, and disappointments. Her best friends are her refuge, but tensions also arise when priorities shift. In her quest to fit in, Lady Bird stumbles upon a boy from her school who embodies both the idealized romance and the challenges of young love.

As graduation approaches, the fire of her dreams clashes with the harsh reality of family expectations and financial limitations. With a fresh focus on personal growth and interpersonal relationships, the story captures the bittersweet complexity of the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Through moments of humor, sadness, and self-discovery, Lady Bird's life intertwines with her loved ones, revealing the nuances of love, family, and the quest for freedom.
