In a California suburb in the early '80s, we follow the lives of a group of teenage friends navigating the complicated waters of love, friendship, and losing their virginity. Among them is Gary, a sensitive and somewhat awkward boy who is madly in love with Karen, a new girl at school who sets his heart aflame. However, Karen has other plans: she is interested in one of the most popular boys, which shatters Gary.
Days pass filled with laughter, parties, and the typical craziness of youth. Gary, along with his friends, faces the insecurities and ups and downs that come with being a teenager. Meanwhile, his other best friend, Rick, becomes something of a Don Juan, easily winning over several girls, which makes Gary feel even more frustrated.
Life takes an unexpected turn when Karen decides to date Rick, leaving Gary heartbroken. As the story unfolds, the boys find themselves caught in a countdown to graduation, realizing that their lived experiences are more valuable than they had thought. The film addresses the harsh reality of growing up, romantic disappointments, and what love truly means. The conclusion is an emotional blow that reminds us that sometimes what we want is not what we really need, and that the lessons of the heart are the hardest to learn.
