In a Showa-era Japan, the story centers around a young doctor named Kato, who returns to his hometown after several years of studying in the capital. However, what he finds upon his return is a place marked by ancient traditions and an oppressive atmosphere. The community is being swept away by rumors of sacrificial rituals and a growing superstition that threatens to shatter the peaceful life they once knew.
Driven by his desire to modernize medicine and free people from fear and ignorance, Kato becomes a target for the village elders, who see him as a threat to their customs. At the same time, Kato falls in love with a young woman named Keiko, who struggles between following her heart and fulfilling her family’s expectations.
Soon, the situation escalates when a mysterious suicide triggers a series of events that reveal dark secrets and old grudges within the community. Kato finds himself in a race against time to uncover the truth behind the superstitions, while grappling with his growing love for Keiko and the hostility that arises from his neighbors.
Caught between the past and the future, Kato must decide whether to sacrifice his own freedom to free his village from the yoke of tradition or to fight against the resistance that threatens to destroy everything. Amid the tension, the film explores themes of modernity, love, and the struggle against cultural oppression.
