In a sweltering summer in the southern United States, a shy and dreamy 12-year-old girl feels trapped in a world she doesn't fully understand. Frustrated by the monotony of her daily life and the slow disintegration of her family, she longs for a connection and a sense of belonging that seems elusive. When her older brother, the only member of her family with whom she shares a close bond, is set to marry, her desire to be part of something greater intensifies.

Amid her growing despair, she begins to forge a friendship with the housekeeper, who offers her a broader yet more complicated perspective of the world. As the wedding date approaches, our protagonist becomes obsessed with the idea of joining her brother and his future wife, imagining that once that happens, she will finally feel part of something meaningful.

Through emotional encounters and moments filled with realizations, the young girl grapples with her insecurities and the transition from childhood to adolescence. The film captures the essence of what it means to belong and the internal struggle between dreams and reality. In the conclusion, the protagonist begins to understand that life does not always align with her desires, but that the quest for a personal identity can be as valuable a journey as the destination itself. In her journey, she will learn that one does not need to belong to a group to find their place in the world.
