In the 1930s, a recently divorced woman with an indomitable spirit and a burning desire to provide a better life for her daughters plunges into the restaurant business. Mildred, a hardworking mother who faces adversity with determination, starts from the bottom in the service industry and quickly makes a name for herself thanks to her talent for cooking and her ability to attract customers. However, her greatest dream is not just to succeed; it is to ensure that her eldest daughter, Veda, receives everything she never had.

As Mildred builds her empire, her relationship with Veda becomes increasingly strained. Her daughter's unchecked ambition, which manifests as contemptuous and manipulative behavior, challenges the love and sacrifice Mildred has made for her. Veda dreams of a life of luxury and glamour, leading her to desire not only her mother's money but also social status and the approval of high society.

Set against a backdrop of betrayal, maternal love, and class struggle, Mildred tries to navigate this complicated landscape where success can come at a devastating price. In her quest for happiness and acceptance, a series of tragic events unfold that will test the strength of her character and the depth of her maternal love. The struggle between duty and desire becomes the focal point of her life, with consequences she never imagined.
