In 1980s Poland, a group of workers faces the ravages of the socialist economy, as well as the imminent state control. The story revolves around a crew of bricklayers who, amid oppression and a cynical work environment, discover the opportunity to earn extra money through clandestine work. As they build a building for a magnate, the men begin to have a series of unexpected encounters with life and their own morality.
Among them is the charismatic and cunning supervisor, who becomes the central figure of the group, guiding them through situations that oscillate between comedy and drama. Each has their own reasons for getting involved in this irregular business, ranging from the need for additional income to support their families, to seeking an escape from the harsh daily reality.
However, as they become more involved in this underground world, the line between good and evil begins to blur, leading to internal and external conflicts. The camaraderie among the men is put to the test as tensions rise, forcing them to make difficult decisions that will not only impact their own lives but also the future of their families. With a melancholic tone and touches of humor, the film portrays a journey of discovery amid a hopeless context, where the struggle for dignity becomes an act of resistance.
