In the near future, where the food industry has taken genetic manipulation to another level, a young girl named Mija lives in the mountains of South Korea with Okja, an extraordinary "superpig." Since she was little, Mija has forged an unbreakable bond with her pet, who has become her friend and protector. However, the corporate world has other plans. The powerful multinational Mirando Corporation intends to take Okja to the glory of farm-to-table, where she will be showcased as a mass-consumed product.
When the executives decide that it is time to claim Okja, Mija embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her. As she traverses the chaotic urban landscape of Seoul, she encounters a group of activists fighting against animal exploitation, who are determined to expose the cruel practices behind massive food production. With a backdrop full of social critiques, the story explores themes of friendship, sacrifice, and the impact of the food industry on animal welfare and the environment.
Amidst both comical and heartbreaking situations, Mija finds herself caught in a moral challenge that tests her loyalty and courage. In the end, the film becomes not only a journey of action and emotion but also a wake-up call about the choices we make as a society and what we are willing to sacrifice for convenience.
