During World War II, a group of French resistors comes together to fight against the Nazi occupation of their country. The story follows Jean Matrac, an ex-convict who returns to France after being unjustly imprisoned. Upon arriving in the city of Marseille, he encounters a series of characters who share his desire for freedom. Among them are an American pilot, a journalist, and a sailor, each with their own story of sacrifice and bravery.

As the plot unfolds, the protagonists become embroiled in a bold plan to bring freedom to their homeland. Through flashbacks, their personal motivations for fighting are revealed. The morality of war, sacrifice, and friendship are central themes as the group must confront their own insecurities and the imminent dangers that threaten their mission.

Tension mounts as they are pursued by Nazi forces, forcing them to make difficult decisions that will shape their destinies. Amidst moments of action and drama, the bonds they form with each other strengthen, highlighting the essence of resistance in dark times. With a mix of patriotism and camaraderie, the team will fight not only for the freedom of France but also for their own personal redemption. In a world where betrayal can be lurking around the corner, the spirit of fighting for what is right shines brightly at the end of the road.
