Amid the brutality of World War I, a Canadian soldier returns home to Alberta, haunted by memories of a lost love and the scars of war. Paul Gross plays a young man who, driven by a sense of duty and the desire to protect his country, joins the ranks of the army and is sent to Europe. Upon arriving at the front lines, he is confronted with the desolation and chaos of war in its most raw form, especially during the bloody Battle of Passchendaele, an episode that will forever mark his life.

As he fights on the battlefield, the protagonist must not only face the violence and suffering of his comrades but also grapple with his own internal demons, recalling the life he left behind and a promising relationship with his girlfriend, who is also facing her own struggle in a war-torn world. The film weaves together the love story with the harsh reality of war, illustrating how love can blossom even in the darkest moments.

With heart-wrenching imagery and an emotional soundtrack, the narrative delves into the impact of war on the lives of the men and women who endure its consequences. Through heroism, sacrifice, and redemption, the story illustrates the immense cost of glory and the struggle to find meaning amid the horror.
