On a sweltering morning in 1900, a group of students from an exclusive girls' boarding school in Australia embarks on an excursion to a mysterious and enchanting natural site known as Hanging Rock. During the outing, the girls, accompanied by their teacher, become captivated by the surreal beauty of the landscape. However, their day of fun turns into a nightmare when several of them inexplicably disappear while exploring the area.

The atmosphere becomes unsettling as the authorities initiate a desperate search in an attempt to find the missing girls. The day evolves into an enigma, leaving a trail of confusion and suspicion. The remaining students and the townspeople find themselves caught in a whirlwind of rumors and theories, and tension begins to rise among them. The bonds of friendship and rivalry are put to the test, while the obsession to understand what happened consumes the characters.

The atmosphere of the story is filled with dreamlike elements and a sense of fatality, questioning what is real and what is not. With captivating cinematography that captures the essence of the Australian landscape and its mysterious beauty, the narrative takes the viewer on a profound journey into the hidden secrets of nature and the fragility of human existence. The film leaves more questions than answers, becoming a classic that resonates with the mystery and fascination of the unknown.
