Set on the sunny coast of Australia during the 1970s, the story follows two teenagers, Debbie and Gail, as they navigate the tumultuous world of puberty and friendship while trying to find their place in a turbulent social environment. Eager to fit in and experience the freedom that adolescence promises, the girls are swept away by the thrilling yet often cruel world of surfers and beach culture.

Debbie, the more level-headed of the two, seeks to make the most of this new phase in her life, while Gail, more impulsive, dives into experiences without looking back. Together, they confront the challenges of their relationships with boys, social pressure, and the discovery of their bodies and desires. However, the journey is not easy: complex revelations about sexuality, friendship, and societal expectations put their bond to the test.

As summer vacation progresses, tensions rise, and the decisions made by both girls lead to lasting consequences. The dreams of a carefree life are overshadowed by the realities of teenage life, betrayal, and the quest for authenticity. Set against a backdrop of surfing, parties, and music, the story reveals the emotional struggles and moments of joy of coming of age, as the protagonists discover what it truly means to grow up and, above all, to be true to oneself.
