In a quiet town in Alabama, a successful screenwriter, David Sumner, seeks to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and moves with his wife, Amy, into her family home. However, the peace of the place is soon interrupted by the arrival of a group of rough locals who, at first, seem simply curious about the new couple. As the days go by, the tension begins to rise.
David, a calm man who is not prone to violence, feels uncomfortable with the aggressive and domineering behavior of the villagers, particularly with a group of men who are working on renovating their home. The situation intensifies when one of the men becomes obsessed with Amy, creating a hostile and dangerous environment. David struggles to stay calm and tries to avoid confronting the situation, but the brutality of the locals becomes increasingly invasive and threatening.
In a series of events that threaten to erupt into violence, David is forced to tear away his skin as a civilized man and confront his more primal instincts. The plot becomes an exploration of the struggle between civilization and barbarism, where the central character must decide how far he is willing to go to protect his wife and home. The tension builds towards a heartbreaking climax that leads David to unleash a dark power he never knew he possessed. In the end, the question remains: how far will one go when their life and that of their loved one are at stake?
