In the heart of 1950s Texas, the life of a powerful oil family is caught in a tragic spiral of passion, greed, and betrayal. The story revolves around Mitch Wayne, a young oil engineer who has grown up admiring his childhood friends, the Hadley family. When he discovers that his unrequited love, the beautiful and desperate Lucy Hadley, is trapped in a torturous marriage with the wealthy and hedonistic Kyle Hadley, Mitch finds himself at a crossroads between his own feelings and family responsibilities.

Tension mounts when Kyle's brother, the fragile and self-destructive Robert, returns home after some time, bringing with him an air of tragedy that complicates the situation even further. Each character grapples with their own demons, as the environment of wealth and power serves as a backdrop for a heart-wrenching drama filled with jealousy and unfulfilled desires.

As secrets from the past emerge, family bonds are strained to the breaking point, leading to a series of devastating decisions that will change their lives forever. Amidst the luxuries and excesses, it is revealed that the true cost of power is often personal loss. This vibrant story captures heartbreak and ambition like few productions of its time, making it an iconic classic that transcends generations.
