In this moving film based on the autobiography of Janet Frame, we follow the life of a young woman struggling to find her place in a world that seems against her. From her childhood in New Zealand, Janet faces a series of challenges, including a dysfunctional family and her own internal battle with mental health. As the narrative unfolds, we see how her passion for writing becomes her only salvation, but fate has a path full of obstacles in store for her.

After being misdiagnosed and confined to a mental institution, Janet's life takes a heartbreaking turn. In that hostile environment, she finds small doses of hope and friendship that inspire her to keep creating despite the circumstances. Through her prose, she reveals her vibrant inner life, filled with imaginary characters and landscapes that guide her on her journey of self-discovery.

In time, Janet not only battles her demons but also seeks her unique voice through literature. Despite being labeled a "madwoman" by society, her talent stands out, and ultimately, her writing becomes her passport to freedom. This story, beautifully shot and emotively performed, reminds us of the power of creativity and human resilience. It is a journey of self-discovery, filled with melancholy and hope, that will resonate in the hearts of anyone who has searched for their own guardian angel.
