In a war-torn Japan, a young boy named Gen lives his life between poverty and hope. The story begins in Hiroshima, where Gen's daily life is interrupted by the detonation of the atomic bomb in August 1945. As the son of a humble family, tragedy takes away everything he loves: his home, his mother, and his innocence. As he struggles to survive in a world full of destruction and suffering, Gen faces the daily fight for survival, living amidst an apocalyptic landscape filled with radioactive waste and ashes.

Throughout his odyssey, the protagonist must grapple with his own painful reality while finding moments of friendship and solidarity in a hostile environment. His tenacity leads him to form bonds with other survivors, from friends to strangers, all seeking a ray of hope amid the desolation. Each encounter and experience shapes him, prompting reflections on peace, war, and what it means to be human in a world marked by suffering.

With a narrative that alternates between heart-wrenching and hopeful moments, the film stands as a powerful testament to the impact of war on the lives of the innocent. Through Gen's eyes, the viewer is taken on an emotional exploration of loss, resilience, and the fragility of life, all while confronting the harsh realities of post-war Japan.
