In an anonymous and desolate city of the 1970s, a young boy named Finney Shaw lives trapped in a cycle of bullying and a complicated family life. His world transforms drastically when a mysterious killer known as "The Grabber" begins abducting children in the neighborhood. After being captured by this dangerous criminal, Finney finds himself locked in a soundproof basement, devoid of hope and with the threat of his captor looming ever closer.
While trapped, Finney discovers that the old phone in the room, which is not connected to any line, becomes an unexpected link to the previous victims of the killer. Through disturbing calls, they offer him advice and strategies for escaping and surviving, each rescuing fragments of their tragic stories. However, as he converses with these spirits, he also begins to internalize their fears, their pain, and the desperation of those who could not escape.
With the pressure of the situation mounting and time running out, Finney must find the strength to confront his own demons and put into practice what he has learned from his predecessors. The film intertwines psychological horror with a profound message about resilience and the fight for survival, leading us to an electrifying climax where wit and bravery become the keys to breaking free from a cruel fate.
