In a quiet French village, Inspector Gouvion is called to investigate the brutal murder of a young woman. Upon arriving at the scene, he realizes that the crime is just the tip of the iceberg in an atmosphere filled with secrets and latent tensions. The victim was an enigmatic woman, and her death awakens old grudges and suspicions among the locals, who seem to be more connected than Gouvion initially thought.

As he digs deeper into the investigation, Gouvion confronts a web of deceit and hidden passions that intertwine each character with the victim. From the enigmatic owner of the estate, who conceals a dark past, to the young woman's mother, whose grief is palpable yet laden with secrets, everyone appears to have something to hide. The inspector, with his methodical and perceptive style, begins to untangle a labyrinth of complex relationships that reveal the close connection between love and hatred, as well as the fragility of appearances.

As Gouvion edges closer to the truth, the danger intensifies, and he realizes that he is not only chasing the murderer but that his own life is in jeopardy. The outcome promises to be surprising, leaving the audience with questions about justice and the shadows that inhabit the human soul.
