In the vibrant and sometimes chaotic environment of New York City in the late 1970s, two friends face the challenges of life and love in this story that captures the essence of female friendship. Doris is a young, caring woman full of dreams, searching for her place in the world while navigating the complications of romantic relationships. Her best friend, an energetic and bold photographer named Marcy, is on a constant quest for new experiences and love, but often finds herself caught in fleeting relationships that do not fulfill her longings.

As the plot unfolds, their lives intertwine with various characters who represent both opportunities and disappointments. Doris begins dating a young musician, plunging her into a whirlwind of emotions and doubts about her identity and aspirations. At the same time, Marcy grows increasingly frustrated as she realizes her lifestyle is, in some ways, a reflection of her insecurities.

Both women must confront their fears and desires, challenging social expectations and seeking their true selves in a world that seems to be shouting at them that they don’t have to settle. The connection between them is put to the test, leading to a poignant conclusion that celebrates both friendship and personal growth amidst a time of cultural transformation.
