In a context of devastating war, a young woman named Mary is caught in the chaos of World War I. The story follows her life as she faces the separation from her beloved, a soldier who is at the front, bravely fighting for his country. Filled with love and hope, Mary becomes a volunteer nurse, dedicating her time to helping the injured returning from the battlefield. With each encounter, the war transforms her ideals of love and sacrifice, pushing her to fight not only for her partner but for all those who are suffering.

As the plot progresses, Mary encounters other figures along her path: a photographer documenting the reality of war, and an artist struggling to find meaning in human suffering. These encounters allow Mary to reflect on what love means in times of crisis, as the world she loves crumbles around her.

The emotional tension grows as days turn into months and the letters from her beloved become increasingly scarce. Promises of return and the longing for peace intertwine in a heartbreaking narrative that weaves together hope and despair. Ultimately, she is faced with the fundamental question: will their love and humanity survive the horrors of war?
