In a post-World War II Japan, the atmosphere is charged with tensions and old traditions intertwined with rising modernism. The story revolves around a young woman named Uta, a talented artist who dreams of breaking the norms and exploring her own identity through the art of tattooing, a symbol of rebellion and stigma in her society. However, her path will not be easy.

When Uta falls in love with a mysterious man linked to a group of mobsters, she becomes immersed in a dark and dangerous world. As she delves into the universe of tattooing, she uncovers hidden stories behind each design, stories that reveal the struggle of those who wear these tattoos as marks of honor, resistance, and pain. With each client she tattoos, Uta confronts the complexities of life in her country, their desires and fears, challenging the expectations that society has placed upon her.

With stunning visual storytelling and a moving narrative, the film becomes a reflection of the quest for personal freedom in a world that seeks to impose conformity. Through the art of tattooing, Uta not only finds her voice but also discovers the power of human connection, the beauty of imperfection, and the meaning that can be found in the pain of the past. The story culminates in an unexpected conclusion, where courage and authenticity confront a society that is not ready to change.
