In a small town in North Carolina, a young artist named Madeleine arrives with her husband, an art dealer, to visit his family. From the beginning, the atmosphere is a bit tense, marked by the cultural differences between the urban life in which Madeleine has grown up and the rural life of her in-laws. The film delves into the dynamics of a peculiar family and how their interactions reveal secrets, desires, and heartbreak.

Madeleine, with her open and curious spirit, makes an effort to connect with her mother-in-law, Evelyn, a traditional woman who runs the household. Her husband, George, faces an emotional tug-of-war as he navigates the relationship between his wife and his family. Additionally, the arrival of his sister, the young pregnant Ashley, adds more tension to the environment, as her life is marked by insecurity and the search for stability.

As Madeleine immerses herself in the lives of her in-laws, she realizes that each family member has their own story to tell. The film uses moments of subtle humor and pain to explore themes such as love, loss, and the quest for human connection. With beautiful cinematography and memorable characters, this intimate portrait highlights the complexities of family life and how, at times, the deepest connections can arise in the most unexpected moments.
