On a remote island, a group of scientists and their research team find themselves trapped in a desperate situation. The local inhabitants have fallen victim to a failed experiment that has given rise to a species of mutant creatures: enormous and aggressive rats, known as "shrews." With a disproportionate size and an insatiable appetite, these beasts are determined to eliminate any intruder that crosses their path.
The story centers on a group of people who, after a devastating storm, arrive on the island seeking shelter. What they don't know is that they are entering a dangerous territory where science has gone too far. As night falls, the shrews begin hunting the new visitors, and the situation grows increasingly chaotic. Tension mounts when the protagonists realize that they not only need to find a way to escape but must also confront their own internal demons in the face of the imminent threat.
With somewhat exaggerated dialogues and questionable special effects, the film becomes a campy delight in its spontaneity. The characters, from the reckless leader to the girl in the group who doesn’t know what she has gotten into, bring a touch of unintentional humor to the plot. As they struggle to survive, screams, action, and mystery intertwine, forming a mythic tale of terror that has lingered in the memory of filmgoers, despite its obvious flaws.
