In a working-class neighborhood of London, a family faces the challenges of everyday life in the 1980s. The story centers on the Pollard family, made up of Mike, the rebellious son who has just left school and struggles to find his place in a world that seems to offer him few opportunities. His older brother, feeling trapped in his monotonous job, aspires to something more but doesn't know how to attain it. Meanwhile, the parents, despite their unconditional love, feel overwhelmed by routine and financial pressures.

The Pollards try to navigate the complexities of their relationships, the growing frustration of unemployment, and the impact this has on each family member. Mike's life takes an unexpected turn when he begins dating a young woman from the neighborhood, triggering a series of events that lead them to question their dreams and aspirations. With a bittersweet tone and characteristic humor, the film explores the highs and lows of personal growth, social expectations, and the longing for belonging. As the characters search for the meaning of their own existence, the story unfolds into a vivid portrait of the struggle for identity in a Britain undergoing socioeconomic changes. Laughter, tears, and a touch of nostalgia make this drama a poignant cinematic experience that resonates with anyone who has felt the pressure of an uncertain future.
