In a dark and violent universe, a former CIA agent named Al Simmons is betrayed and murdered by his own boss, who uses him as a pawn in a deadly game of power. Upon dying, he finds himself in hell, where he makes a desperate pact with the demon Malbold, who promises to return him to Earth to see his wife, Wanda. However, Al discovers that he has been resurrected as an infernal warrior, a being known as Spawn, with a terrifying appearance and otherworldly powers. Now trapped in a decayed and revived body, Al is forced to fight against corruption and his own inner demons.
As he begins to adapt to his new reality, he encounters a formidable enemy in Malbold's violent and twisted disciple, a villain known as the Clown, who has his own sinister plans for humanity. Al's struggle becomes personal when he discovers that Wanda has found solace in the arms of another man, intensifying his desire to undo the pact that has led him to this tormented existence.
As the skies over Earth erupt in a war between good and evil, Spawn must confront not only his past but also the dark forces seeking to use him as an instrument of destruction. Redemption seems out of reach unless he can find the strength to become the hero he never wanted to be.
