A psychologist from New York, played by Roy Scheider, finds himself caught in a web of mystery and seduction following the brutal death of one of his patients. His tranquil life is disrupted when an enigmatic woman, portrayed by Meryl Streep, enters the scene. She is the deceased's girlfriend and seems to harbor more secrets than she reveals. As the psychologist delves deeper into the investigation, he becomes captivated by the woman's beauty and mysterious aura, igniting a series of psychological tensions and dualities.

The relationship between the two intensifies, marred by a mix of desire and distrust. While the protagonist tries to unravel the truth behind the murder, he begins to question his own morality and the nature of love. With each new revelation, a dark game of lies, deceit, and hidden passions surfaces, where everyone seems to have motives and no clue is easy to interpret. As he draws closer to the truth, the danger escalates, leading to a climax perfectly balanced between psychological thriller and romance.

Through atmospheric imagery and unsettling direction, the film keeps you on the edge of your seat, forcing you to wonder who the woman that has captured the psychologist's heart truly is. The blend of tension, seduction, and mystery will leave you pondering long after the final credits roll.
