In the bustling world of New York, a young and charming secretary named Cathy (Doris Day) dreams of true love while working in an advertising office. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with wealthy and handsome business executive Roger (Cary Grant), a confirmed bachelor and womanizer who has everything except the ability to commit emotionally. When they coincidentally meet for lunch, Roger is captivated by Cathy's charisma, who represents everything he has been looking for in a partner, even as she challenges his ideals of carefree relationships.

As their relationship progresses, Roger tries to win Cathy over with luxuries and whims, taking her to impressive dinners, resorts, and social events; however, Cathy's simple and honest nature reminds him of the value of the simple and genuine things in life. Meanwhile, she struggles to understand her own romantic expectations and her desire for something more meaningful. In a world where material interests prevail, both characters must navigate the appealing superficiality of wealth and the richness of feelings, finding a balance between what they want and what they truly need. This delightful romantic comedy is a hilarious exploration of the quest for love in the era of ostentation, where both protagonists must decide if they are willing to let go of their own fears to embrace true connection.
