In a 1970s Moscow, a timid plumber named Afanasi, known as "Afonya," lives a life of tranquility and routine, removed from the complications of love and responsibilities. Always seeking the next easy solution, Afonya is content to do minor jobs and live from day to day. However, his life takes a complete turn when one night he meets a young nurse, who sees in him a potential that he himself has not recognized. She pushes him to step out of his comfort zone and confront his own fears and desires.
