In a quiet American town, Jared Eamons, a 19-year-old young man, leads an apparently normal and happy life. However, his world crumbles when his devoutly religious parents discover that he is gay. Instead of accepting his orientation, they decide to send him to a “soul-repair” program, a conversion center that promises to change his sexual identity through questionable and often abusive methods.
As Jared delves into this dark world, he faces the pressure to conform to the expectations of his family and community. There, he meets other young people who also struggle with their identity and the oppression imposed by their loved ones. With each session, Jared is forced to confront his true self and the internal struggle of living according to his family’s beliefs and values or being true to himself.
As he fights for his freedom and authenticity, Jared finds support in his mother, who begins to question the teachings she has followed all her life. Through moments of pain, discovery, and resistance, the story explores the dilemmas of familial love, self-acceptance, and the courage to be oneself in an environment that seeks to silence one’s truth. With a raw and emotional approach, the film raises questions about faith, identity, and the right to be loved for who one truly is.
