In a dark and decaying city of the early 1930s, an ex-convict named Jim, who has just been released from prison, finds himself trapped in a web of organized crime. Upon returning to his old neighborhood, he reconnects with his former life and friends, but also with old wounds and betrayals. Jim has a chance at redemption when he falls in love with the sweet and determined Mary, a woman who dreams of escaping her surroundings but has been ensnared by the clutches of a relentless crime boss.

As Jim tries to stay away from the criminal life, he realizes that it is easier said than done. The world around him is crumbling, and his past threatens to catch up with him once more. The danger intensifies when his former cellmate, now a bank robber, returns to the city with a risky plan that involves Jim. Torn between the desire to start anew with Mary and the allure of the illicit, Jim faces heartbreaking decisions that could lead him to ruin.

As the tension mounts and violent events unfold, Jim struggles to make a name for himself, confronting not only his street enemies but also his own inner demons. In a climactic confrontation that tests his morality and his future, Jim will be forced to decide what kind of man he wants to be, fully aware that any path leads to an uncertain fate.
