Set during World War II, the story follows a young boy named Ivan, a 12-year-old who has been torn apart by the conflict that has devastated his home and childhood. The film immerses us in a harsh and dark world, where innocence confronts the brutality of war. After losing his family and witnessing unimaginable horrors, Ivan becomes a solitary wanderer in the forests of Russia, where he encounters a group of soldiers fighting against the enemy.

Ivan’s journey is not just physical; it is also an emotional odyssey. As he joins the soldiers, he struggles to cope with his pain and loss, seeking purpose amidst chaos. The camaraderie he develops with the soldiers is bittersweet, as while he finds a sense of belonging, he also confronts the reality that they are the ones who must fight for the country and, consequently, for their own future.

The film delves deeply into the protagonist's psychology, showcasing his bravery and vulnerability. Through evocative imagery and masterful direction, it portrays the moral dilemmas of war and the struggle for survival. In the end, Ivan seeks not only revenge but also a way to reconcile with his past, culminating in a conclusion that will make everyone reflect on the cost of war on youth.
