In a frozen suburb of Stockholm, a lonely boy named Oskar lives trapped between bullying at school and a desolate home. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Eli, an enigmatic girl who moves into the building across the street. At first glance, Eli seems to be the ideal friend, someone with whom to share his thirst for revenge and vent his fears. However, it soon becomes clear that Eli is a vampire, trapped in a child’s body and condemned to a nocturnal existence.
As their relationship deepens, Oskar finds himself drawn into a world of darkness and mystery. Eli needs to feed on blood to survive, which leads her to commit horrendous acts that pose moral and ethical dilemmas. Yet in this unlikely connection, Oskar finds the courage to confront his bullies and his own neglectful mother.
With a chilling and melancholic atmosphere, the story explores themes such as loneliness, love, and violence, all while portraying the protagonists' unparalleled struggle to find their place in a world that rejects them. The film challenges the conventions of the horror genre, presenting a poignant portrayal of friendship and the search for belonging, in a context where even love can sow seeds of destruction. As the climax approaches, Oskar must decide how far he is willing to go for the person who has begun to fill the void in his life.
