In a dusty boxing gym in Los Angeles, the life of a retired trainer named Frankie Dunn is transformed when he meets Maggie Fitzgerald, an aspiring boxer determined to make a name for herself in a male-dominated world. Frankie, a former champion with a tragic past and regrets about his relationship with his daughter, is initially reluctant to train Maggie. Despite doubts and skepticism, Maggie's tenacity and burning desire to excel finally persuade him to give her a chance.

As Maggie progresses in her training, she becomes a talented and charismatic boxer, earning the respect of everyone around her. Her relationship with Frankie also deepens, evolving into a mix of father and daughter, where they share their dreams, fears, and longings. However, Maggie's life takes an unexpected and tragic turn during one of her fights, challenging not only her career but also the values and decisions that have shaped Frankie.

The story delves into themes of perseverance, sacrifice, and the internal struggle over the value of life and death. With moments of tenderness and pain, the connection between Frankie and Maggie becomes a poignant exploration of redemption and sacrifice, where each punch in the ring reflects the harshness of life outside of it.
