In a quiet town in Illinois, the Jarrett family's life falls apart following the tragic death of a son, Buck, in a boating accident. The film delves into the complicated family dynamics that arise between grief and the quest for healing. With a distant father and a mother consumed by her own demons, the atmosphere at home is tense and filled with secrets.

The survivor of this tragedy, Conrad, struggles not only with the loss of his brother but also with his own internal issues. After a suicide attempt, he begins therapy with a psychiatrist, who helps him confront his feelings of guilt and hopelessness. As Conrad seeks his path toward recovery, the family confronts its own traumas. His mother, Beth, feels unable to cope with Buck's death and shows a clear emotional disconnection from Conrad. Meanwhile, the father, Calvin, attempts to be the pillar of the family but finds himself trapped in a whirlwind of loyalties and desires for connection.

The film explores profound themes of grief, lack of communication, and the pressure of familial expectations. With masterful performances and a script that oozes authenticity, the story immerses us in the complexity of human relationships, showing how each family member faces their pain differently. In the end, the movie poses the question: can a family truly heal and reconnect after a devastating loss?
