In late 19th century Poland, the story follows a group of immigrants arriving in Lodz in search of a better future amidst the Industrial Revolution. Among them is the ambitious young industrialist Mieczysław Wojnicz, who dreams of becoming a textile magnate. As he delves into the world of production, Mieczysław faces the harsh realities of unfair competition, worker exploitation, and the social tensions simmering in the city. His dreams of grandeur are threatened by his obsession with success, leading him to make morally questionable decisions.

Meanwhile, various characters intertwine along his path, such as the idealistic engineer Karol, who strives to improve the living conditions of the workers, and the enigmatic Helena, a woman caught between her love for Mieczysław and her commitment to social justice. As tensions rise, the story explores the struggle between progress and ethics, the desire for personal success, and the responsibility towards the community.

With a rich historical backdrop and palpable social criticism, the film offers a vivid portrayal of human ambition and its consequences. Through betrayals, hopes, and moral dilemmas, these characters will be forced to confront not only their external adversaries but also their own internal demons, on a quest that will change their lives forever.
