In the 1920s, a World War I veteran named Larry Darrell faces an existential quest that leads him to question life and purpose. After experiencing the horrors of conflict, Larry returns to his life in Chicago, where he feels disillusioned by the materialism and superficiality of society. Despite the pressures from his fiancée, Isabelle, and his friend, Gray, who urge him to maintain a conventional life, Larry decides to embark on a journey in search of truth and personal fulfillment.

His adventure takes him to India, where he delves into spirituality and philosophy, exploring the teachings of meditation and the pursuit of self-knowledge. Throughout his journey, Larry also confronts the duality of his past life and the sorrow of those he left behind. As his loved ones grapple with their own dilemmas, Larry becomes a symbol of freedom and authenticity, seeking a deeper connection with the world.

As he returns home, he realizes that his journey has not only transformed his perspective but has also touched the lives of those around him. Torn between duty and spiritual pursuit, Larry must decide how to integrate these experiences into a society that still does not understand the path he has chosen. This introspective drama explores the conflict between heart and mind, the search for meaning, and the struggle for true happiness.
