The Story of the Last Chrysanthemum

In late 19th century Japan, an elderly maid from fallen nobility clings to her passion for flowers, particularly the precious and delicate "mimasu." Her life, marked by a past of decline, becomes murky when, after the death of her lover, she finds herself alone in a world that scarcely acknowledges her existence. The film narrates the story of her solitary days in a village on the brink of oblivion, where the struggle to survive intertwines with her obsession for cultivating her flower garden.

As she dedicates herself completely to her passion, the woman begins to remember how moments of happiness have faded, trapped in a sea of melancholy. Through flashbacks, fragments of a life once filled with love and joy are revealed, as well as the grief for what has been lost. The arrival of an orphaned girl at her door awakens something she believed to be lost: hope and the possibility of a new beginning.

Amidst the fleeting beauty of flowers and the harsh reality surrounding her, the elderly woman faces an internal struggle: to let go of her past or cling to the memories that have defined her. With poetic and emotional cinematography, the story captures the essence of life, love, and death, revealing that even in solitude, there is space for redemption and rebirth.
