Set in post-war Italy, the story follows a passionate woman named Giovanna, who lives in a small rural town. Her life takes a turn when she falls hopelessly in love with an engineer, a romantic named Antonio. Despite economic hardships and family tensions, their love blossoms amid fields of sunflowers, symbolizing hope and desire. However, the couple's happiness is short-lived. Antonio is called to serve in the war, leaving Giovanna heartbroken and with a distress that she cannot ignore.

Years go by, and Giovanna's life transforms into a routine of solitude and longing. The memories of her love and the scent of sunflowers constantly haunt her. When the war finally ends, she clings to the hope of reuniting with Antonio, but upon learning that he has gone missing, her world crumbles. The search for answers takes her through various cities, confronting moments of pain and disillusionment. As she embarks on this journey, the story explores profound themes such as loss, sacrifice, and the resilience of a woman.

With every step, Giovanna discovers more about her own strength and the power of true love. The film intertwines tragedy with moments of beauty, highlighting a woman's struggle to find her place in a world marked by war and memory. With stunning visual landscapes, the plot reveals that even in sorrow, there is a glimmer of hope.
